Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center
Design Assist Healthcare Construction
With a vast resume of healthcare experience, FZ served as a Design Assist partner and electrical lead on Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center’s new expansion and renovation in Alamogordo, NM.
Our work included providing the complete electrical package for Gerald Champion’s 110,000 square foot medical office building addition and a 10,000 square foot renovation to the existing hospital. The complete demolition and remodel of the existing space along with the new addition had to be completed while the hospital remained fully functional. We provided site lighting, distribution, isolation panels, nurse call system rough in, fire alarm, lightning protection rough in, and a 600 Kw generator for the facility.
Throughout preconstruction, our team provided multiple value engineering alternatives that helped Robins & Morton save over $250,000 while incorporating Gerald Champion’s wishlist of features. Also, our VDC team worked with the project team to resolve planning and schedule issues ensuring the most efficient order of operations.
Owing to the ceiling height and wall-to-wall duct work on the third story of the new addition, our team coordinated the first half of the floor in order to allow onsite work to begin prior to the BIM coordination being completed. Our team also re-routed our conduit around the ductwork to mitigate any conflicts with the mechanical contractor. A unique challenge of the project was navigating the site’s isolated location, ensuring that material and equipment shipping and storage aligned with the project schedule.
