As a Design Assist partner, FZ provided all of the lighting solutions on MidMichigan Health’s 100,000 square foot addition to their Alpena Hospital. As part of our work, FZ provided all of the lighting controls, lighting devices, site lighting, nurse call rough in, fire alarm system, annunciator panels, and electrical e-stops. FZ was also awarded a large gear package that included installing and wiring the sub-station, transformers, S&C switches, ATS, UPS, HVLs, enclosed circuit breakers, and numerous UPS and IP panels.

Due to FZ’s value engineering capabilities, we were able to buy conduit, gear, fixtures, and lighting controls in bulk early on in the process, protecting the project from price escalations and material shortages due to long lead times. This reduced project costs from the very beginning of the project and also allowed our team to prefabricate assemblies offsite. Our team prefabricated boxes, device pig tails, fixture whips, spooled wire, and lighting controls in our Grand Rapids-based prefabrication facility, saving time and space onsite. All prefabricated items were organized and shipped by room so that the components arrived just-in-time for installation. Our team also utilized a Trimble unit to help locate electrical points during the underground layout of the project.

Our team installed a 48 inch wide by 180 feet long steel casing underneath the existing MidMichigan Medical Center, saving the customer an estimated $1,000,000 and preventing critical disruptions to hospital operations.
