Silver Birches Lodge
Historic Electrical Restoration
As a former residence, private rental property, public resort, girl’s camp, and lodge, Silver Birches has served the Mackinac Island community for over 100 years. Built in 1906, the Adirondack-style structure fell into disrepair after many years of neglect and abandonment. That is, until the owner of Mission Pointe Resort decided to renovate the lodge into a residential property to continue the magic that Silver Birches has brought to the island.
Feyen Zylstra was pleased to be a part of the restoration of this gorgeous, historic lodge. Our team provided the complete electrical infrastructure for the lodge, from the electrical service at the end of the road all the way to the structure’s electrical rough-in and finishes.
As keeping the character and charm of the lodge was of the utmost importance for the renovation, our team’s dedication helped deal with the unique requirements of this project. A major challenge lay in situating electrical rough-ins among original 1908 logs. With patience, attention to detail, and our team’s design support, we were able to provide the rough-ins while keeping the historic integrity of the lodge.
Since the property is located on the furthest part of the island from downtown, getting the materials and crew to-and-from the site proved quite challenging. The location paired with the Island’s no car policy meant that our team rode the four miles to work on a special fleet of FZ bicycles.
