Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) Western Michigan chapter, a national construction trade association, has named Chris Weaver a 2024 West Michigan Craft Professional of the Year (CPOY) finalist. Chris is a Foreman at Feyen Zylstra, a Grand Rapids-based electrical contractor.
ABC seeks out well-deserving candidates for the CPOY each year, reaching out to area construction companies for nominees who demonstrate a passion for the trade, craft mastery, leadership skills, and a high standard of professional excellence. The award is especially relevant today with the dramatic shortage of skilled tradespeople nationwide.
Understanding the invaluable impact of mentorship in honing one's craft, Chris credits numerous individuals who have invested their time, patience, and faith in his development. This deep appreciation fuels his passion for assuming the role of teacher and mentor, particularly in guiding apprentices toward success. Chris is also known as being an advocate for his customers, proactively fostering relationships and establishing open lines of communication. His efforts have helped resolve inevitable conflicts while delivering projects that consistently exceed customer expectations.
“Chris is everything that a Craft Professional ought to be. He is humble, patient, determined, honest, and always looking to learn and grow his skills. His teaching and mentoring are having a significant impact on many apprentice's futures. The passing on of skills and expertise from one generation to the next is something he can be proud of. He is extremely deserving of this honor,” says Neal Kooiman, Senior Field Operations Manager at Feyen Zylstra.
The West Michigan CPOY award winner will be announced live at the Excellence in Construction Awards on Thursday, Sept. 19th. The other finalists are Lorenzo Brown from Erhardt Construction and Jaye Hutson from Van Laan Concrete Construction.
