FZ's purpose is very simple - to have a positive impact on the lives of people. While we strive to do this in our our work every day, we find it most impactful when we see our purpose mirrored in the personal lives of our Fzers. One such Fzer is Gary Higginson. While at work, Gary serves as an Account Manager in FZ's Kalamazoo, MI branch. In his free-time though, Gary and his wife, Lauren, run and operate Higgy Bears, a non-profit organization that provides special stuffed animals that are designed specifically for kids struggling with scoliosis.
Gary and Lauren founded Higgy Bears in 2013 with the hope of providing support and encouragement to kids who are diagnosed with scoliosis and find themselves wearing a brace. Understanding first-hand how trying the experience can be for kids, Lauren had the idea to provide diagnosed children with a teddy bear who wore a matching brace. By providing representation and a shared experience for these kids, a level of comfort and joy can be achieved.
Since its founding, Higgy Bears has provided almost 25,000 bears to children in need in over 140 countries worldwide. Recently, Higgy Bears held its first annual conference in Grand Rapids, MI that hosted Top Scoliosis Medical Professionals, Scoliosis Influencers, workshops, craft sessions, games and more! Over 300 kids were gifted a Higgy Bear at the event - the joy was contagious!
FZ is so impressed by the continual work that Lauren and Gary Higginson do to make a positive impact in the lives of children around the world - keep up the great work!
