We interviewed Charlie Campagnani, Systems Installation Technician in FZ's Charleston team, to better understand his experience working at FZ. Here's what he had to say!
How long have you been working at FZ? How did you get connected?
I've been working at FZ for the past three years as a Systems Installation Technician. My dad is an Electrician and has worked at FZ for the past four years. He told me I should come and work here as well. Ever since I've started, I haven't wanted to leave.
Have you ever worked on a project with your dad?
Oh many times. He loves it. I think it's awesome that I get to help him out and learn from him.
So, you work with the Systems Installations Team. Do you enjoy it?
Oh yes, I absolutely love anything to do with controls technology. I do often help out other groups so I've done a bit of everything. I enjoy being pulled into new projects, it provides an opportunity to learn.
What's been your favorite project?
Anything to do with Fire Alarm. I worked for seven years at Johnson Controls so I understand it more than anything else. It's my sweet spot. As far as specific projects, I really enjoyed an out of town project we did in Florence, SC.
What do you like about FZ?
It feels like a family more than anything. If you've ever been around our team or in a meeting with us, you'd see. We laugh and get along like we've known each other our whole life. Everyone is supportive and is willing to help you learn and grow….even if you ask too many questions.
I honestly just love this company. Sometimes it isn't about just the money, it's about working where you're truly comfortable and happy. FZ has done just that, it's made me happy and comfortable!
Is there anything you dislike about FZ?
I've run into challenges on projects where I've had to be patient and treat it as a learning experience. Some projects can be difficult but you have a team around you who is ready and willing to show support.
Are there any specific benefits you enjoy?
Are you kidding me? I love them all! I'm paid well, I have great insurance, as a Foreperson I get a van full of tools. If I start talking about the positives, I'll never stop talking.
What is the best piece of advice you could give to someone who is considering the trades?
Never give up. Work as hard as possible. You could be the next boss, anyone and everyone is able to become a Foreperson, an Account Manager, a Branch Director. FZ is full of opportunities.
