We interviewed Daniel Wheeler, Electrical Foreman, in FZ's Charlotte team, to better understand his experience working at FZ. Here's what he had to say!
How long have you been working at FZ? What is your role?
I've been working at FZ for the past three years as a foreman. I work in the Service Department, I love the variety. I get to bounce from project to project. It's never boring.
How did you get connected to FZ?
I first heard about FZ when I was living and working in Charleston, SC. Some of the guys I had worked with had joined FZ and really liked it. When I moved to Charlotte and heard they had a branch here, it sounded like a great opportunity.
What brought you to FZ?
Well, like I said, I knew people who were working at FZ and really enjoyed it. It also seemed like a place where I could grow my career. They also had relationships with customers that I was interested in working with.
What has been your path to your current position?
My uncle has been an electrician for over 40 years, so growing up I had good exposure into what a career in the electrical industry would look like. I started out as an electrical helper with a local contractor. That turned into me working my way up to being the top helper, then the lead man, and then eventually a foreman. I've been a foreman for the past 10 years.
What are your career goals?
Keep healthy, keep working, and keep doing a good job. It's pretty simple. But really, just keep learning and working on different projects. Eventually I'd like to be a superintendent.
Why do you like working at FZ?
There's always work. They treat their people well. At other companies, if work gets low you can expect to be laid off. FZ is different, I feel valued and know that they don't just see me as expendable.
Also, the benefits are good, the tools are great, I love that I get to have a vehicle.
Anything else you'd like to add?
Just that FZ has been good to me and is a great place to work. It's ideal for someone who wants to grow or feels stuck in their current position.
